A Look Back and a Look Ahead: January with the Palomar Model A’s
As we kick off 2024, the Palomar Model A Club is revving up for another exciting year! Last year ended on a high note with our festive Christmas party at The Hunter in Oceanside. The event was a joyous gathering of 41 members—the most attendees since 2019—complete with a beautiful cake, thoughtful gifts, and the passing of the "Crown of Office" to our new president, David Frazee.
David is starting the year with an inspiring message: embrace challenges, try new things, and don’t fear failure. In his words, "One who fears failure limits their activities." This motto resonates with the adventurous spirit of our club. Whether it’s taking your Model A out for a spin or tackling that tricky car repair, 2024 is the year to step outside your comfort zone.
January Highlights
First Club Meeting:
On January 3rd, members gathered at the Vista Library to kick off the year. With the Palomar Estates Clubhouse temporarily closed, the library provided a cozy setting for our meeting, followed by dinner with fellow members.
Murrieta Mini Golf Tour:
The fun continues with our January 6th tour to Murrieta for some friendly competition at miniature golf. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy a scenic drive, share laughs, and build connections.
Last Sunday Breakfast:
Mark your calendars for January 28th at the Main Street Café in Fallbrook. This casual gathering is a chance to enjoy good food and great company—no agenda, just fellowship.
Looking Ahead:
The CCRG Jamboree in Clovis is scheduled for March, and planning is already underway for side trips. We’re also excited about the 61st Annual Orange County Pancake Breakfast and several regional tours throughout the year.
Honoring Our Members
We take a moment to remember two longtime members who sadly passed away in December. Their contributions to our community will be deeply missed.
Richard Allen
9 May 1930 to 10 December 2023
Longtime Palomar member, about 55 years, and 1971 club president, Richard Allen passed away in the hospital after battling cancer.
He had been married to his wife Dorothy for 64 and together they raised nine boys and famously no girls. He was a proficient mechanic working for local dealerships before getting his longtime job with Caltrans, He was instrumental in getting quite a large number of local Model A owners into the club and he will be surely missed.
Peter Peterson
23 August 1937 to 24 December 2023
Pete, who was James Craig "Pete" Peterson, on Christmas Eve, up in a hospital in San Luis Obispo. He was born in Los Angeles, August 23, 1937 to James, Sr. and Valerie Peter-son. On July 31, 1977, Pete married Nancy An-derson in Douglas County, Nevada.
They joined the club way back in July of 1992 and continued despite moving to Templeton, California in 1997. His wife Nancy passed away herself back on October 11th.
Get Involved
As always, there are plenty of ways to participate. Whether it’s writing for The Reflector, joining a tour, or helping a fellow member with car repairs, every effort makes our club stronger. And if you’re considering membership, now’s the perfect time to join and experience the joy of driving and preserving these classic cars.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead, filled with laughter, adventures, and, of course, plenty of Model A memories!
